Unknown Vietnam Soldier
In the early 1980’s remains that could not be identified were designated as the Vietnam War’s “Unknown Soldier” and lay in state in the U.S. Capitol. With advances in DNA technology, the remains ultimately were identified as those of Air Force 1st Lt. Michael Blassie who was shot down on 11 May 1972.
Currently there are no designated unknown remains from the Vietnam War.
